QUICK LINKS: District News The Pewaukee School District Marketing and Communications Department manages district-wide communication efforts, including promoting events, news, and recognitions for all four schools. It produces two community publications, The Perspective, which reaches 15,000 homes, and manages the ParentSquare application for families, staff, and students. The department also manages social media accounts (@PewaukeeSD on Facebook and Instagram) and supports student-led initiatives like The Hook and Hook Jr. publications. PERSPECTIVE PUBLICATION Pewaukee Schools publishes a biannual community magazine called The Perspective, delivered to over 15,000 households throughout the Pewaukee area. Each edition is filled with stories told from the perspectives of staff, students, administrators, and community members—highlighting celebrations, achievements, and important district-wide initiatives. In 2018, she returned to the district she grew up loving... this time as a staff member! Miranda feels deeply honored to shine a spotlight on the incredible work of the educators who once taught her, as well as celebrate the many accomplishments of students across campus. As a one-person department, she thrives in the variety her role offers and enjoys collaborating with individuals throughout the Pewaukee community. Miranda holds a Bachelors degree in Graphic Communications with a minor in Marketing from Carroll University, where she graduated in 2018. Outside of work, you’ll find her spending time with friends and family, adventuring with her golden retriever, Goose, painting murals around campus, or cheering on Wisconsin sports... especially our Pirates!

CREATE finalist bios finalist bios BACK TO AWARDS Support OUTSTANDING INNOVATION AWARD FINALISTS Innovative approach, program, project or other idea that improves an existing experience or program, or creates something new for the benefit of students, staff, and/or our community Ben Lamp CREATE COACH Ben Lamp, Create Coach, is an innovative leader who continuously reimagines Career and Technical Education experiences for secondary students. He is deeply committed to empowering both staff and students, encouraging them to fully utilize makerspaces and seamlessly integrate them into the curriculum. Ben’s collaborative approach fosters a supportive environment where staff feel heard, often rethinking initial ideas through his thoughtful guidance. He actively builds partnerships with community businesses, expanding real-world learning opportunities for students. Ben consistently goes above and beyond by writing and managing grants that bring crucial resources to support student innovation. His dedication and leadership have had a lasting impact on elevating the educational experience at Pewaukee. MARKETING/COMMUNICATION MANAGER Miranda Kozlik Miranda Kozlik, Marketing and Communications Manager, embraces every challenge with enthusiasm and determination. She covers all forms of communication across the district, skillfully celebrating the wonderful things happening at Pewaukee by consistently showcasing others and lifting up those around her. Miranda’s innovative standout projects include designing the 4K Environmental Rooms, single-handedly developing the new district website, and even painting the bookmobile bus. Her expertise in photography, videography, communication, social media, and community publication "The Perspective" allows her to creatively engage the community. Always looking for fun, innovative ways to celebrate the culture at Pewaukee, Miranda’s contributions help bring the district’s story to life in meaningful and impactful ways. 2ND GRADE TEACHER Sarah Torbenson Sarah Torbenson, a dedicated 2nd grade teacher at Pewaukee Lake Elementary, is always thinking of new and exciting ways to engage students and bring the school community together. She played a key role in facilitating memorable events like the 2nd grade lock-in, the PLE Prom, and the creation of a new PHS scholarship, fostering school spirit and building connections among students, staff, and families. Sarah’s creativity extends beyond the classroom, as she continually seeks opportunities for families to get involved in the school community, making everyone feel like an integral part of the PLE family. Her dedication to creating fun, meaningful experiences ensures that both students and staff have lasting, positive memories of their time at Pewaukee Lake Elementary. 3RD GRADE TEACHER Emily Jasinowski Emily Jasinowski, a first-year 3rd grade teacher at Horizon Elementary, has already made a remarkable impact with her creativity and initiative. She developed the idea of creating a hammock garden in the Horizon courtyard, bringing a refreshing outdoor learning space to life. Emily took the lead in creating a committee and collaborating with outside companies to bring the concept to fruition, even securing a PTO grant to fund the project. She didn’t stop there—Emily also developed and implemented activities that tie the hammock garden into classroom instruction, ensuring that students were not only able to enjoy the space but also actively participate in its design process. Her innovative approach to learning and community involvement has already made a lasting impression at Horizon. TECHNICAL EDUCATION TEACHER Nelson Brownell Nelson Brownell, Technical Education Teacher at Pewaukee High School, has been a driving force behind reimagining what technology and engineering education can look like for students. Over the past two years, he has been instrumental in forming and nurturing impactful community partnerships with local manufacturing, construction industries, and WCTC. His commitment to innovation and collaboration led to the launch of the first Business Alliance meeting, where he brought together these partners to engage in meaningful conversations about curriculum development, facilities, and work-based learning opportunities. Nelson’s forward-thinking approach and dedication to creating authentic, real-world experiences for students continue to shape a vibrant and evolving Tech Ed program, preparing students for success beyond the classroom. SUSTAINABILITIY We commit to continuously engage in disciplined, innovative, and proactive planning to ensure the Pewaukee School District provides high quality facilities, and services for students, staff, and our community. PEWAUKEE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S 2024 - 2027 STRATEGIC PLAN FUTURE READY By June 2027, PSD will improve reading achievement across all grade levels by increasing the percentage of students meeting proficiency on AimswebPlus for grades 4K-2, the Wisconsin Forward Assessment for grades 3-8, and the ACT College and Career Readiness benchmark for grades 9-11 TEACHING AND LEARNING SUSTAINABILITY By 2027, 90% of PSD teachers will increase their understanding and application of designing learning opportunities that anticipate learner variability, so that they can effectively design curricular goals, assessments, methods, and materials to meet the needs of all students. FUTURE READY By June 2027, PSD will increase the percentage of students receiving special education support who meet or exceed growth expectations in Math and ELA, as measured by identified state and district assessments. STUDENT SERVICES SUSTAINABILITIY By 2027, 90% of PSD teachers will increase their understanding and application of designing learning opportunities that anticipate learner variability, so that they can effectively increase engagement with students and parents to meet the needs of all students. The projects will be completed on time and within the established budget. FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS SUSTAINABILITY By June 2027, the Pewaukee School District will build sustainability measures into the Operating Budget development process to ensure the allocation of scarce resources is completed in the most effective manner. This is accomplished through a thorough review of all aspects of the operations for potential efficiencies. FUTURE READY By June of 2027, the Pewaukee School District will increase its overall number of applicants and the number of staff from racially diverse backgrounds in order to meet or exceed the percentage of students from racially diverse backgrounds. WORKFORCE ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT SUSTAINABILITY By June of 2027, the Pewaukee School District will increase the frequency and quality of communication to staff regarding benefits and compensation to improve understanding and utilization as a means for improving employee wellness, engagement and retention. FUTURE READY By 2027, Pewaukee High School and Asa Clark Middle School will migrate their Athletic and Activities webpage to the district’s new website. This includes additional features to the calendar system that showcases athletic and activity events COMMUNICATIONS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SUSTAINABILITY With the “Phase One” launch of the new district website in 2024, the department will adjust to feedback, making appropriate adjustments, additions, and expansions, ushering in “Phase Two” of our in-house website development. Pewaukee Kiwanis The Pewaukee Kiwanis Club is a dedicated and generous partner to the Pewaukee School District, continuously contributing time, resources, and support to enrich the school community. Their efforts have resulted in beautiful and meaningful additions to school spaces—ensuring all students feel acknowledged and celebrated. Kiwanis works alongside students to involve them in community activities such as gardening projects at Horizon Elementary and creating artwork for events like the RiverRun and Beach Party. Their generous donations help fund scholarships and support student-focused initiatives like Friends of Fine Arts. Whether through hands-on collaboration or behind-the-scenes support, Pewaukee Kiwanis plays an important role in uplifting and empowering the district’s students. D&H INDUSTRIES Sam Gerrits Sam Gerrits, CEO of D&H Industries, is a visionary partner who exemplifies the power of school-to-workforce connections. He consistently opens the doors of his company to Pewaukee students, offering them hands-on learning opportunities that build real-world skills and inspire future career paths. Sam’s dedication to career and technical education is evident in his generous support, including a major contribution that provided Pewaukee High School with a new plasma cutter—an industry-grade tool that enhances classroom learning, supports the Robotics Club, and strengthens cross-curricular opportunities. Through his leadership, Sam demonstrates how business partnerships can elevate student experiences and prepare them for success beyond graduation. WELLPOINT CARE NETWORK Liz Davison Liz Davison and her team at WellPoint Care Network have been instrumental in supporting student mental wellness at Pewaukee High School. As a dedicated liaison lead at WellPoint Counseling Services, Liz has worked closely with the school psychologist and District Social Worker to strengthen suicide prevention programming and ensure robust mental health support for students. Her compassionate, detailed approach provided vital support to both students and staff during a period of community grief following the loss of a student. Liz has played a key role in securing and implementing a grant that has significantly advanced mental health resources across the Pewaukee School District. Her exceptional care and attention to detail have fostered long-term mental wellness initiatives that benefit all students, contributing to sustainable structures that support the emotional well-being of the entire school community. FROEDTERT Mandie Reedy Froetdert's Mandie Reedy is heavily involved in Community Outreach and has been a powerful partner for Pewaukee Schools! She has supported our students and district in a variety of ways in the past several years. She has helped to secure many, many healthcare mentors for our students, providing opportunities for our students to do deep dives into careers of interest before they graduate and embark on their post-secondary journeys. She has served as a guest speaker for classes, helping students understand labor market information and career opportunities in health care, and she has also focused on increasing student awareness of mental health issues to build their self-advocacy skills. She has participated in our Senior Reality Store, and has been an active participant on our Academic & Career Advisory Board. She desire to explore new ways to partner has been a true gift to our district and students. SCHULTES GREENHOUSE Christine Schultes Christine Schultes at Schultes Greenhouse plays a vital role in creating inclusive spaces for all learners, including those in the special education program. She collaborates with the Serving Others Insight program, helping students craft holiday gnomes for downtown Pewaukee, while generously sharing her resources and expertise. Christine also partners with Pewaukee High School for their Future Ready Day, teaching students gardening skills and offering helpful pointers on planting. Known for her creativity, she takes ideas from staff and students, adding her unique flair to bring them to life, making her a valued contributor to the community and school programs. Services OUTSTANDING TEAMWORK AWARD FINALISTS Recognition of outstanding teamwork represents the ability to work collaboratively and positively to impact students, staff and the organizational culture. PLE Reading Team KARI RIDOLFI, REBECCA ROGERS, CHRISTINA SWANSON, KIMBERLY FLESCH The PLE Reading Team, made up of Kari Ridolfi, Christina Swanson, Rebecca Rogers, and Kimberly Flesch, has been an invaluable support system for staff, especially during the first year of Act 20 implementation. They went above and beyond by creating example documents, letters, and forms to simplify the process for all teachers. The team tested hundreds of students, alleviating stress from teachers and ensuring the smooth flow of the testing process. Their commitment to maintaining open doors and flexible schedules provided continuous support for teachers, helping them navigate the challenges of the testing windows and the implementation of reading plans with ease. SHARON STRAUB, JOHN BLECHACZ, TAYLOR LANGE Insight Global Business Team The Insight Global Business Team, consisting of Sharon Straub, John Blechacz, and Taylor Lange, has made a significant impact on the Pewaukee School District by contributing their expertise and resources to enhance the educational experience. They have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting both students and staff, particularly in areas of career exploration and business development. Their collaboration with the district has fostered meaningful learning opportunities, providing students with valuable insights into the business world. Through their partnership, they have helped bridge the gap between education and real-world experience, inspiring students to pursue their career goals with confidence and knowledge. CHRISTINA ROTH, CHRISTA BANHOLZER, TRICIA URBAN, KYLIE HOANG, MATT OPIE, SIERRA GILL PLE Morning Arrival Team The PLE Morning Arrival Team, consisting of Christina Roth, Christa Banholzer, Tricia Urban, Kylie Hoang, Matt Opie, and Sierra Gill, plays a vital role in creating a positive and safe start to the school day. Rain or shine, they are outside every morning, ensuring that students can enter the school safely. As the first faces students see each day, they make these moments special by greeting each student with warm smiles and hugs. This team provides the welcoming atmosphere that every student deserves, setting a positive tone for the rest of their day. ANGIE FULFER, BRYNN JAKUBOWSKI, COLLEEN ROONEY Horizon Instructional Coaches Angie Fulfer, Brynn Jakubowski, and Colleen Rooney, Horizon’s instructional coaches, have redefined what instructional coaching means at the school. They’ve dedicated countless hours to professional learning and reading to expand their skills as coaches, which they have used to help Horizon teachers embrace coaching as a valuable tool for everyone. Their focus on Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and a student-centered approach has contributed to a shift in the school’s culture, ensuring that all teachers prioritize supporting every student. Leading with kindness, empathy, and instructional expertise, Angie, Brynn, and Colleen’s collaboration has greatly benefited all Horizon teachers and enhanced the overall learning environment. ANGIE LEWEK, AMANDA SORKNESS, KATIE WILLIAMS PHS Counselors Angie Lewek, Amanda Sorkness, and Katie Williams, the Pewaukee High School counseling team, embody balance and care in their work, providing non-judgmental support for both students and staff. They play an essential role in creating an enriching environment on campus, managing a variety of behind-the-scenes tasks such as testing coordination, junior conferences, scheduling, and academic and career planning lessons. Despite their extensive responsibilities, they consistently prioritize daily support for students, ensuring their well-being and academic success.
