PEWAUKEE SCHOOL DISTRICT
FORM OF ASSESSEMENTS

In order to effectively communicate the learning, growth and achievement of our students in a constructive and timely manner, we believe that assessment practices utilized throughout the district must be accurate, meaningful, consistent & supportive of learning.  The Pewaukee School District uses a comprehensive Pewaukee District Assessment Program  to obtain a balanced profile of student achievement. Our program consists of a three-tiered system including standardized testing, district selected assessments, and classroom assessments, all of which are monitored on an ongoing basis.

1

STANDARDIZED
TESTING

The District’s standardized testing program includes the State-mandated assessment system which will again include a new set of tests in the areas of English Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies in grades 3-8 and 10 (social studies), along with the administration of the Pre-ACT (grades 9-10), and ACT (grade 11).  Our students consistently perform among the best in Wisconsin on these assessments.

2

PSD
BENCHMARK
ASSESSMENTS

Our schools utilize a variety of standardized assessments as formative progress checks throughout the year.  This includes STAR Math (grades 5K-8), STAR Reading (grades 2-8), and STAR Early Literacy (grades 4K-1), the Fountas and Pinnell (F&P) Reading Assessment (grades 4K-5), and Pre-ACT (grade 8-10).

3

CLASSROOM

ASSESSMENT

Classroom assessments are used both formatively for learning and summatively of learning. Summative assessments are administered at the end of a period of learning for the purpose of reporting achievement and progress to students and parents.  These assessments are tightly aligned with the Board approved priority standards.
