Did you know the Teachers vs. Students March Madness game is one of Horizon’s favorite traditions? This exciting event takes place right before spring break and brings the whole school together. From cheering crowds to fast-paced games, it’s a day many students look forward to all year. We asked 5th graders what March Madness means to them and what makes it so special.
What Does March Madness Mean to 5th Graders?
For many 5th graders, March Madness is one of the best parts of the year. It’s a chance to cheer on friends, watch an exciting game, and celebrate their final year at Horizon.
Here’s what some students said:

“It means cheering on other students and beating the teachers.”
“It’s fun to watch and really loud!”
“It’s my last March Madness at Horizon, and that makes it special.”
Do Students Like Basketball?
We also asked some students if they like basketball and have experience playing:
Some students have played on teams or started playing at a young age.
Others enjoy watching more than playing.
A few students like basketball but haven’t had much experience yet.
This shows that you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy March Madness!
Favorite Parts of March Madness
Students had many favorite moments from the big day. Some of the most popular answers included:
Watching students play and compete
Seeing the teachers try to keep up
Dancing and enjoying the music
Cheering with friends
One student said, “Watching the students beat the teachers is the best part!”
This year, the students won all three games:
3rd Grade: 18–2
4th Grade: 27–13
5th Grade: 35–32
March Madness is a tradition that brings excitement, school spirit, and great memories. For 5th graders, it’s a special way to celebrate their last year at Horizon. As we look ahead to next year, one question remains: will the teachers ever win?
