Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes of the 5th Grade talent show? Each year, Horizon’s talent show gives 5th graders a chance to share their talents and celebrate their final year of elementary school. From singing and dancing to jokes and instruments, the show features exciting performances. But it takes a lot of hard work from teachers to make it all come together!

Mr. Pauley’s Role
Mr. Pauley has been helping with the talent show for the past five years. He volunteered because he had experience using sound boards in high school. His main job is running the sound and music during the show. He shared that setting up the sound system takes a lot of time, and he often works before and after school to make sure everything is ready. Mr. Pauley also explained that the talent show is only for 5th graders because it is their chance to shine as the oldest students in the school. One of the hardest parts of his job is telling students they were not selected for the show.

Mrs. Miller’s Role
Mrs. Miller helps organize the talent show and keeps everything running smoothly. She shared that the tradition began with Mrs. Chandelia, and she wanted to continue it after she left. Mrs. Miller helps determine the order of the acts and ensures everything is prepared for the performance. She explained that only 5th graders participate because there is not enough time to include every grade, and it is part of their promotion celebration. When choosing acts, she looks for students who are well-prepared and have interesting performances. Behind the scenes, she spends a lot of time communicating with families and making sure all the details are ready. Her advice for students is to practice a lot and perform with confidence.

Ms. Anderson’s Role
Ms. Anderson helps organize and set up the talent show alongside the other teachers. She joined the team when Mrs. Miller asked her to help. She explained that the talent show is a special way to celebrate 5th graders as they get ready to move on to middle school. When selecting acts, the team looks for a variety of talents, such as singing, dancing, playing instruments, and comedy. Ms. Anderson shared that a lot of planning goes on behind the scenes, including scheduling and organizing each performance. She said the most challenging part is telling students they were not chosen, especially because they worked hard to prepare. Her advice is simple: go for it, be yourself, and don’t hold back.

Now you know more about what it takes to put on the 5th Grade talent show! From planning and organizing to running sound and choosing acts, many people work hard to make the show a success. If you are a 5th grader, consider trying out and sharing your talents. Good luck to everyone performing, and most importantly, have fun and enjoy the show.
