The Pewaukee School District uses technology intentionally to support high-quality teaching and learning. The district also takes a thoughtful approach to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, through an AI Literacy Framework and targeted professional learning. Paul Behrens serves as Chief Technology Officer for the Pewaukee School District, where he leads the district’s technology services with a focus on supporting students, educators, and the learning environments they depend on every day. He is a graduate of UW-Whitewater with an undergraduate degree in Computer Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Technology and Training. Paul also holds a Cybersecurity Technical Diploma from Nicolet College as well as multiple industry certifications spanning technology, cybersecurity, and public safety.
With more than 15 years of experience in information technology, Paul works to ensure that Pewaukee’s technology is reliable, secure, accessible, and thoughtfully aligned with the district’s educational goals. He believes the best technology is technology that empowers people - giving students opportunities to learn, helping educators teach effectively, and allowing staff to focus on serving the school community. He enjoys solving difficult problems, developing people, and working collaboratively with educators and district leaders to find practical solutions that make a meaningful difference for students.
Before joining Pewaukee, Paul worked in both K–12 education and the private sector, leading and supporting complex technology environments involving networks, wireless systems, servers, cloud services, cybersecurity, and identity management. His previous work with Wisconsin school districts gave him an appreciation for the unique role technology plays in education and the importance of balancing innovation with reliability, security, fiscal responsibility, and ease of use. Paul also served as an adjunct information technology instructor for the Wisconsin Technical College System, and served as a fire department chief and certified fire service instructor in northern Wisconsin.
Paul is committed to making technology at Pewaukee a positive part of the student and staff experience while preparing the district for the needs of the future.
