Français 3 mélangé | Blended French 3

Une Année à Paris
  • French 3 students will progress through the ACTFL Intermediate Low Proficiency Level while collaboratively immersing themselves in the French language and culture. Learners will develop strategies and skills necessary to navigate real-life, social situations that require an exchange of basic information, survival in the target culture, asking questions, and giving detailed personal information. Speakers at this level can narrate and describe in all major time frames while engaging in activities and projects to strengthen their knowledge of other disciplines and develop a global perspective.

WHAT IS BLENDED LEARNING? Blended Learning is defined “a formal education program in which a student learns at least in part through online learning (with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace) and at least in part in a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home. The modalities along each student’s learning path within a course or subject are connected to provide an integrated learning experience.” (Christensen, Horn, & Staker, 2013).

While blended learning allows learners to work independently to a greater degree than in the traditional classroom, it is important to remember that no one is working alone. We will truly be a “community of learners” who will be very much involved with each other throughout the course. Guidelines have been established to ensure that all are meeting expectations in a timely fashion.

All Blended French 3 students must attend required face-to-face whole-group, small-group, and one-to-one activities during our scheduled B1 block. During this time we will discuss cultural topics, course expectations and procedures, new vocabulary and grammatical structures, technology guidelines, assignments, and more. I encourage you to contribute your questions and thoughts. Keep in mind that certain units and activities will require both virtual and face-to-face interactions, either individually or collectively.  It will be vital that you actively participate in your own learning by being self-directed, diligent in your communication with both your peers and your instructor, and open to new ideas and experiences.

Your instructor will also post weekly office hours for students to ask questions, seek additional instruction, and complete performance assessments. Please be aware that Mrs. Larson-Horne is a district EdTech/Educator Effectiveness Coach whose primary role is to support teachers at Pewaukee High School and Asa Clark Middle School. She may be required to attend conferences and work off-campus; therefore, although every effort will be made to be available during the scheduled B1 class period, office hours may fluctuate from week to week.

    BLENDED COURSE EXPECTATIONS:

    • Be respectful of yourself, as well as others and their belongings.
    • Be on time for required face-to-face classes and scheduled meetings.
    • Be prepared by bringing everything you will need to fully participate in daily lessons.
    • All rules in the PHS Student Handbook and Technology Code of Conduct are in full effect in the classroom and on field trips. This includes not using an internet translator!
    • Have fun and take risks! Making MANY mistakes is encouraged. Taking risks shows that you are trying things that are just outside of your comfort zone. This is how we learn to speak a language!
