Pewaukee Board of Education Votes to Place Referendum Question on Nov. Ballot
Action Comes After A Year-Long Facility Master Planning Process Examining Enrollment Projections And Community Feedback
PEWAUKEE, WI — At its July 30 meeting, the Pewaukee School District Board of Education voted to adopt a resolution for a referendum question to be placed on the November ballot.
The question will pertain to the approval of a resolution authorizing the issuance of general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $39,700,000. The tax impact of the bond is estimated at $0.66 per $1,000 of property value. This would result in an annual tax impact of $165 on a home valued at $250,000.
One of the fastest-growing school systems in Waukesha County, the Pewaukee School District has been engaged in a campus-wide facility master planning process over the past year. This process has featured a study of future enrollment projections and ongoing staff and community feedback, including a community survey completed by nearly 1,200 residents. The results of the survey indicated a high level of support for the district to take immediate action to address its capacity needs and ensure the continued viability of its single-campus model.
The process led to a campus plan identifying projects at all schools, including the renovation of Asa Clark Middle School (ACMS) to include sixth-grade students. ACMS currently serves students in grades seven and eight. The plan would also move third grade out of Pewaukee Lake Elementary (PLE) and into Horizon Elementary, which would become a third- through fifth-grade school. This approach would reduce the number of students attending PLE, which has the greatest immediate space needs. In addition, the resolution seeks to address needs for additional physical education space at Horizon Elementary, student services and administrative office space needs at Pewaukee High School (PHS), new library and additional classroom spaces at PHS and campus parking and infrastructure.
“This plan was generated through a strong collaborative process with our community and provides the capacity and progressive learning spaces necessary to meet the needs of students in our growing community,” said Superintendent Mike Cady. “In the months to come, we will engage in a transparent and ongoing communication effort to ensure all members of our community are informed and have the opportunity to provide their feedback.”
