DISTRICT RECEIVES APPROVAL TO ADD SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER
Move Paves The Way For Full-Time Security Presence On Campus
PEWAUKEE, WI - The Pewaukee School District will add the position of School Resource Officer (SRO) as an added security measure on its campus. The position was approved May 7 by Pewaukee’s Board of Education and formally approved by Village of Pewaukee Board of Trustees May 15.
The yet-to-be-hired officer will begin working on campus full time beginning with the 2018-19 school year. The SRO will serve the full K-12 school campus and will be selected through a collaborative hiring process between the school district and the Village of Pewaukee Police Department.
“We are excited by the opportunity to build on an already strong working relationship with the Village Police Department through the addition of the School Resource Officer,” said Dr. Mike Cady, Superintendent of Schools. “We, like many other districts, are proactively adding an SRO as just one of several security measures to ensure our students, staff, and school visitors are as safe as possible on our campus. By working in our schools on a daily basis, the SRO will be able to build positive relationships with our students and contribute his or her expertise to enhance our curriculum as well. This is really a win-win situation for the school district and our community.”
The addition of an SRO was part of the district safety committee’s wide-ranging plans and was also proposed by several community members through the strategic planning process and other communications. The decision paves the way for the district to work even more strategically with the Village of Pewaukee Police Department, who already has a significant and positive presence on the four-school campus.
“The Village of Pewaukee Police Department is looking forward to working with the Pewaukee School District to promote a safe atmosphere for its students, staff and visitors,” said Chief Jay Iding of the Village of Pewaukee Police Department. “The assignment of a School Resource Officer to the district has always been a goal of this department.”
