Master of Arts- Language, Literature and Translation Bachelor of Science - Spanish Education

Señora Varela

¡Hola a todos!

Me llamo Señora Varela. This is my fourth year in the district and I love being a part of this school! In addition to teaching Spanish 1, 2 and 3, I also coach Girls' Golf in the fall and Track in the spring.

A little about myself:
I grew up in Brookfield and attended UW- La Crosse, where I studied Spanish Education and competed on the Track and Field team. I recently obtained my Master's Degree from UW-Milwaukee in Language, Literature and Translation. After completing my undergrad in 2011, I went to South America (Chile) for a year and taught English in a Technical College. Out of all the amazing things that I experienced in Chile, meeting my husband was definitely the best. Apart from my experience traveling in Chile, I have lived in rural Mexico teaching both English and Spanish, backpacked through Central America, and visited Spain and Bolivia. I truly enjoy learning about and experiencing other cultures around the world.

When I am not at school, I enjoy traveling, listening to music (especially Spanish music), playing golf, going for walks, and spending time with my friends and family (and my cat). I also volunteer as a Spanish-English medical interpreter.

I truly believe that learning another language and culture (especially Spanish) is an extremely beneficial skill and will help you become a more global citizen. I am dedicated to help facilitate this skill and look forward to helping you grow as a citizen of our ever-changing global society.
